The Emirates Passport Authority has officially announced the implementation of procedures to extend the validity period of Emirati passports from five years to 10 years. This decision was made by a previous ruling issued by the UAE Cabinet in March 2024.
Starting tomorrow, Monday, July 8, citizens aged 21 years and older will have access to this new service, as confirmed by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP). The updated passport system will offer enhanced facilities and comprehensive digital services to streamline the process for applicants.
Previously, Emirati passports were valid for five years from the date of issuance. The transition to a 10-year validity period will not only benefit citizens by reducing the number of required trips to renew their passports from two to one every decade, but also aligns with the government’s commitment to simplifying bureaucratic procedures and saving time for its people.
The new 10-year Emirati passports will be issued using the same procedures and delivery channels as the current passports. Citizens are encouraged to apply for the extended service when their current passports are due for renewal.
The UAE passport stands as one of the most influential passports in the Arab world. Recently, the Ministry of Interior has initiated the issuance of electronic passports to the citizens of the country, aligning with international technical and security standards.
Passports for newborns
Emirati parents can now easily obtain passports for their newborns through the convenient “Mabrouk Ma Yak” service package. This comprehensive service allows for the issuance of all necessary identification documents for the newborn, including the birth certificate, passport, and Emirates ID card, all at the same time.
Effective July 8, newly issued passports are valid for a maximum of 10 years from the date of issuance or until all pages are filled, whichever comes first. It is important to note that these passports cannot be extended after expiration, and holders must apply for a new passport when necessary.
