Imagine never having to search for your driver’s license or marriage certificate again. Thanks to the UAE’s cutting-edge digital infrastructure, you can securely store essential documents on your phone.
The UAE government has established a comprehensive digital infrastructure as part of its Digital Government strategy. This enables you to not only request important documents from government departments but also store them in a single app on your phone and have them verified instantly.
Wondering how this is possible and which documents you can save on your phone? Here’s everything you need to know.
One app to keep them all – UAE Pass
No matter what type of phone you have – whether it be an Apple, Android, or Huawei – you can utilize the UAE Pass app to securely store all official documents issued by the government departments of the United Arab Emirates. These documents may include:
- Driving licence
- Emirates ID
- Residence visa
- Tenancy contract
- Car registration
- Ministry of Education attested degree (if it was attested after April 1, 2020)
- Marriage certificate issued by Ministry of Justice (if it was issued after January 1, 2020)
- Labour card
- Labour contract
- Title deed of a property you have bought
The app offers the capability to upload a variety of documents from 16 different government departments, totaling up to 40 different types of documents. Have you downloaded the UAE Pass app yet?
How to add these documents
To access your digital documents through the UAE Pass app, start by opening the app and navigating to the ‘Documents’ section at the bottom of the screen.
From there, select ‘Request a document’ to begin the process. Choose the relevant government department based on the document you need. For example, if you require your digital driving license or car registration, select the ‘Ministry of Interior’. If you need your rental contract, choose either the ‘Dubai Land Department’ for Dubai residents or the ‘Department of Land and Real Estate Regulation, Ajman’ for Ajman residents.
Once you have selected the department, a drop-down menu will display all the available digital documents. Choose the document you need and tap on ‘Request’. Confirm your request and you will receive a message confirming that it has been received.
Although the document is typically issued immediately, you may need to wait a few minutes before checking back in the ‘Documents’ section. You will then see the document listed in your ‘digital vault’.
How to use digital copies for services
Once you have saved the document on your app, there are three different ways in which you can utilize it:
- Download the PDF of the digital document by tapping on the ‘download’ icon and saving the document in your phone files. The document is a PDF with a ‘UAE Verify’ stamp, confirming that it is a Digital Trusted Document.
- Share the PDF of the digital document easily with anyone online by tapping on the ‘share’ icon located next to the ‘download’ icon. You will have the option to share it via email, WhatsApp, or any other app of your choice.
- Utilize the QR verification option if you need to physically present the document for verification. Simply tap on the ‘QR verification’ option at the bottom of the screen, and the app will generate a QR code that is active for five minutes. The recipient can scan the code, which will direct them to the ‘UAE Verify’ website to issue a digital authenticity certificate, confirming the document’s validity and authenticity.
