In July 2023, OAG reported that Dubai International (DXB) continued to hold the title of busiest airport for international flights.
The airport attained 19% more international capacity with 4.9 million passengers than the second busiest international airport, London Heathrow (LHR), with 4.1 million seats.
In comparison to the previous month, the number of seats per day at London Heathrow (LHR) and Dubai (DXB) both climbed by 2% and 1%, respectively.
This outstanding success persisted in the first quarter of 2023 and went above and above expectations. Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, stated that as a result, they increased their upward traffic prediction for 2023 to 83.6 million passengers, putting DXB within striking distance of our annual traffic for that year.
“DXB’s performance in the first quarter exceeded our expectations and reflects the strong growth in demand that we continue to see across our key markets. With important developments in the international travel sector, such as the further easing of travel protocols in China and the upcoming local annual seasonal peaks and festive holidays, our outlook for the second quarter and the remainder of the year remains bullish,” he said.
Passenger numbers at Dubai International exceeded 21.2 million in the first quarter of the year, with traffic there reaching 95.6% of 2019 levels.
Third-placed Amsterdam (AMS) has increased its daily seat volume by 3% since last month.
The airport that added the most seats this month was London Gatwick (LGW), adding 263,710, or 9% more seats per day than in the previous month.
Doha (DOH) and Seoul Incheon (ICN), who are currently in eighth and ninth rank, both added 7% more seats per day compared to last month.
World’s busiest airports
While Dubai International Airport (DXB), the second busiest airport, has 4.9 million seats, Atlanta (ATL), the world’s busiest airport in July 2023, had 5.5 million seats, or 13% more seats.
There is one additional day in July compared to June, and looking at seats per day, it can be seen that Atlanta and Dubai have both expanded capacity this month compared to last month by 1% and 2%, respectively.
With 4.6 million seats, Tokyo (HND) is still the third-largest airport, and the number of daily seats has climbed by 2% since last month.
