The Abu Dhabi Government leaves no stone unturned when it comes to the safety of its citizens. Unvaccinated people are not allowed to enter restaurants, cafes, malls, and shops in Abu Dhabi, as part of worldwide efforts against COVID-19. Using the test-and-trace app Al Hosn, people can show their vaccination and testing status. Discover the new protocols for entry to public places and everything about the Green Pass Abu Dhabi.
Al Hosn’s green status has been reduced from 30 days to 14 days by the Ministry of Health and Prevention. If you are fully vaccinated and have a negative PCR result, the green status of the app will only be valid for 14 days starting on 5th December 2021. Once the validity period has expired, the status of the app will change to grey.
Abu Dhabi green pass rule
Green pass Abu Dhabi rule was implemented on June 15, 2021, for residents aged 16 and older. According to the Abu Dhabi Emergency Crisis and Disasters Committee, the Abu Dhabi green pass forms part of the emirate’s four-pillar strategy, which includes active contract tracings, vaccinations, safe entry, and taking preventive measures.
The following is the current list of who can enter Abu Dhabi based on their vaccination and green status:
- Under the new restrictions, which apply to residents as well as tourists, proof of vaccination will be required to access several public spaces.
- Al Hosn, the UAE’s testing, and immunization app will be a health pass for access to these locations.
- Grey-status individuals will not be allowed entry.
- The Al Hosn app allows entry for those exempt from vaccination with green status, which appears after a negative PCR test result and lasts for seven days.
- To remain vaccinated on the app, the third booster dose must be taken six months after the second dose. The requirement applies only to those who have received two doses of the Sinopharm vaccine.
- On the other hand, the Green Pass Abu Dhabi is no longer required for entry into the capital city from other emirates. As a result of recent announcements, commuters can now take a direct route to Abu Dhabi without having to schedule PCR testing ahead of time. (Previously, drivers had to check their virus-free status at the Ghantoot border).
- In Abu Dhabi, PCR test restrictions are no longer enforced as they are in other emirates.
Through the Al Hosn app Green Pass Abu Dhabi, vaccination evidence enables residents to enter:
- Shopping centers
- Restaurants
- Cafes
- Retail outlets (including those not within a shopping center)
- Gyms
- Recreational and Sports facilities
- Health clubs
- Resorts
- Museums and Cultural centers
- Theme parks
- Universities, public and private schools, nurseries, and other education centers
The rule does not apply to supermarkets and pharmacies.
How does a green pass work?
Green is one of three color codes on the Al Hosn app. Grey and red are the other two. Known as Al Hosn, the contact tracing app is a UAE government initiative to contain the spread of Coronavirus. The Al Hosn app indicates the validity of the COVID-19 PCR test and the vaccination status of the resident based on red, grey, or green status.
The Colour-coding System
Let’s first understand the color-coding of the Al Hosn app before talking about the green pass status in detail. In the Al Hosn app, the color-coding system is based on three different colors, each reflecting the resident’s current COVID-19 status.
- In case of a negative PCR test or 28 days after receiving your second dose of COVID vaccination, the result will be green.
- You are grey if you are unvaccinated, you haven’t had a booster or you haven’t taken a PCR test within the past 14 days.
- COVID-19 positivity is indicated by red.
How To Activate The Green Pass In Abu Dhabi
Visitors and residents must present a valid green pass on the Al Hosn app to enter public areas
A Green Pass Is Available For Residents
On the Al Hosn app, there are six categories of green status. These include:
- As long as the provided RT-PCR test result was negative, vaccinated individuals who have received their second dose at least 28 days prior or who are volunteers in vaccine trials will be able to access green status on the Al Hosn app for 30 days following their last RT-PCR test. The app will display an icon of the letter E and a gold star next to the green status for seven days. These individuals should undergo an RT-PCR test every 10 days and the result must be negative to maintain green status.
- Vaccinated individuals who have received their second dose less than 28 days ago will have Al Hosn green status for 14 days following the last RT-PCR test they took, as long as the provided test result was negative.
- The Al Hosn app will appear green for 7 days after the last RT-PCR test taken by someone who has received their first dose and is waiting for their second dose appointment, provided that the test result was negative.
- If an individual has a certificate for exemption from taking the COVID-19 vaccine, the Al Hosn app will stay green for 7 days following the last RT-PCR test they took, as long as the test result provided is negative.
- For individuals who have received their first vaccination dose but are at least 48 days away from receiving their second dose, the Al Hosn app will remain green for 3 days from the last RT-PCR test they took as long as the test result was negative.
- Individuals who are not vaccinated and do not have a vaccination exemption certificate can use the Al Hosn app for 3 days after their last RT-PCR test, as long as their test result is negative.
Green Pass For Tourists
The Green Pass Abu Dhabi is also required for international tourists, which can only be obtained after their international COVID-19 certificates are verified. Users of the ICA app must register for the “Register Arrival” section before leaving their home country, fill out the required form, and upload their vaccination certificate before leaving. They will then receive an SMS with a link to download the Al Hosn app.
The ICA app, website, or the airport will provide you with a UID (Unified Identification Number) upon arrival in the capital. You can register on the Al Hosn app right away or when taking the PCR test using the UID. Using an active QR code in the app, you can check your pass status, test results, travel test requirements, and other vaccination-related information once registration is complete.
