Contacting doctors and specialists at government facilities can be an alternative if you’re trying to get high-quality healthcare at a fair price. Through its health card, the Emirates Health Services (EHS), which runs public hospitals and medical facilities across the Emirates, mostly in Sharjah and the other Northern Emirates, enables UAE citizens to access healthcare facilities at a discounted fee.
Who is qualified to receive an EHS health card? What does it entail? Here is everything you require to know.
What is the EHS health card?
13 hospitals and 59 primary health centers are just a few of the more than 130 healthcare facilities that EHS runs throughout the UAE. If you live in the UAE, you can apply for a health card at any hospital or clinic run by EHS, as well as at a typing center.
Individuals possessing an EHS Health card are eligible for a 50% reduction on consultation and diagnostic charges, according to the EHS toll-free number, 8008877. However, the costs of medicines are excluded.
Here is how to register for the card, whether you want to visit a pediatrician for your child or schedule a dental appointment at one of the EHS-operated hospitals or clinics.

How to apply for the EHS health card
You can apply for the card at the following locations:
- Service Delivery Centers (hospitals, clinics, or health centers)
- Typing Centres
Documents needed
You only need to present your Emirates ID when you apply for your health card. However, additional paperwork is needed when requesting a health card for a newborn child:
- Birth certificate.
- Father’s passport.

- The mother’s Emirates ID.

You only need to complete the paperwork and pay the card fees whether you apply for the service through a health center or a typing center. You will get a notification from EHS through SMS on your registered cellphone number after EHS accepts the application. It’s vital to understand that the health card is an upgrade to your Emirates ID, which you can use to access government healthcare facilities, rather than a physical card.
