Even though it is common in the UAE to deposit security deposits at the time of signing a new lease agreement, what can you do if you are unable to receive the deposit returned when you are leaving the apartment or villa?
Whether you are a resident from another Emirate visiting Abu Dhabi, or if you are a new car owner in Abu Dhabi, you may face a circumstance where you cross a Darb toll gate while your vehicle is not registered in the Darb system. There is good news if you are concerned that driving through the gate without registering your vehicle could result in a fine.
From the time they cross the gate, car owners have 10 working days to register their vehicles and pay the required fees.
Here is all you need to know about how you can register your vehicle.
Crossed the toll bridge on an unregistered vehicle – what next?
You will receive an SMS on your registered cellphone number telling you that you have crossed the toll gate and given the car number plate if you have just driven a vehicle that has not been registered with the Darb toll system.
The SMS further states: “Please register your vehicle in Darb – Toll Gates system within 10 working days to avoid the violation.”
What happens if one does not register the vehicle?
- A Dh100 fine will be imposed if you don’t register your car after the grace period of 10 working days.
- Dh200 fine for going through the gate a second time without registering the car
- The third time you enter the gate, you’ll be fined Dh400.
How to register your vehicle
Simply follow these instructions to create a Darb account first to avoid paying any fines:
- Visit – darb.itc.gov.ae.
- Click on create new account for individuals on the Toll Gate System login page.
- Enter your email address.
- Enter the verification code sent to your email.
- Select the Emirate your vehicle is registered in and enter your traffic number.
- Enter the mobile number linked to your traffic number to receive a verification code
- Enter the verification code sent to your phone.
- Enter all profile information and click on complete registration.
Your account is now active and you can top up your e-wallet.
How to top up your e-wallet
- After logging on to the Darb website, your dashboard will show a “financial wallets” widget.
- If you’ve made a fresh account, the amount will appear as Dh0 under “My wallet.”
- Click on the icon next to ‘top up’.
- You will get the option of topping the wallet up with set amounts like Dh50, Dh100, Dh150, or Dh200. Alternatively, you can also provide a specific amount as per your requirement.
- Select ‘Top up using Credit Card’.
- Enter your credit card number and other related details.
- Click ‘Pay’.
Your payment will be processed and the amount will then reflect on your e-wallet.
