In the upcoming school year, the Ministry of Interior in the UAE is urging drivers to take a pledge to enhance road safety in the country. Their national awareness campaign, known as ‘Accident-Free Day’, is designed to guarantee a seamless and accident-free first day of school on August 26. By participating in this initiative, drivers have the opportunity to reduce four black points from their licenses.

How to participate?

To participate in the campaign for a day without accidents, please follow these steps:

  1. Begin by visiting the Ministry of Interior (MOI) website at moi.gov.ae and log in using your UAE Pass.
  2. Once logged in, locate the ‘Smart Services’ tab in the top right corner of the page. Click on ‘Initiative of a Day Without Accidents’.
  3. Review and agree to the campaign commitments, which include safe driving practices such as maintaining a safe distance, yielding to pedestrians, wearing seat belts, adhering to speed limits, avoiding distractions while driving, and giving way to emergency vehicles.
  4. After agreeing to the commitments, click on ‘I agree’. You will then receive a participation certificate via email within minutes. By abiding by the campaign rules and driving safely, four black points will be removed from your license one month later.

What are black points?

Traffic points, also known as black points, are penalties given for certain traffic violations and are recorded on a driver’s license. While minor infractions such as speeding slightly over the limit or improper parking may result in fines, more serious offenses can also result in the accumulation of black points.

A driver can receive anywhere from four to 24 black points depending on the severity of the violation. If a driver accumulates 24 black points and commits another offense, the case will be escalated to the UAE courts, potentially leading to the suspension or confiscation of their license.

How to participate?

To participate in the “Day Without Accidents” initiative, please visit the Ministry of Interior (MOI) website at moi.gov.ae and log in using your UAE Pass.

    7. Engaging in distracted driving behaviors.
    8. Disobeying traffic officer’s instructions.

    10. Failing to ensure passengers are wearing seatbelts.
  2. Failing to maintain a safe following distance.
