UAE schools: COVID-19 guidelines for 2022

New instructions for schools and other educational institutions in the UAE have been announced, allowing for the resumption of school activities and field trips.

The UAE’s Ministry of Education (MOE) and the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA) made the statement on April 21.

The modified national protocol for educational facilities for the academic year 2021–2022 is as follows:

Vaccination and Regular Check-Ups

• Green Pass requirements must be followed by visitors to the school.
• Students aged 16 and up, as well as instructors and school staff, are required to take the PCR test in accordance with Green Pass guidelines.
• Every month, students under the age of 16 must take the PCR test.

University Accommodation

• To enter university accommodation, all vaccinated and non-vaccinated students must take a monthly PCR test (or comply with the Green Pass system).

Gradual Closure of Educational Institutions

• Cancellation of the progressive closure of educational facilities in the event of infection, as well as adherence to committees’ and emergency and local crisis teams’ directions in each emirate.
• Closure of the school if the infection rate surpasses 15% of the total enrollment, with a three-day closure period.

Patients and Close Contact

• Quarantine rules for close contacts have been removed, and health authorities in each emirate have provided directives. Read our guide to learn more about the close contact protocols you must follow.
• For people who are ill or have respiratory issues, distance learning is an alternative.

School trips

Both vaccinated and non-vaccinated students are permitted to attend school as long as they wear face masks and show their Green Pass.

School activities and events

• All school activities and events are permitted as long as face masks are worn indoors, and 
• Parents are permitted to accompany their children to school events as long as they follow safety precautions.

The Ministry of the Environment emphasized the importance of guests presenting their Green Pass and committing to wearing face masks indoors.
