Golden Visa holders can get a new license without going through training classes. Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) made the announcement through its social media channels.
After passing the knowledge and road tests, golden visa holders must present their home country’s driving license to obtain a new license from the RTA at driving institutes.
What are knowledge and road tests?
As part of the application process, applicants in the UAE must attend classes (both theory and practical) and pass three tests:
- Theory test
- Parking test
- Road test
A tweet on the RTA’s social media channels stated, however, that those who hold a Golden Visa can get a license issued in the UAE without taking classes if they pass a knowledge test (theory) and a road test.
What documents are required?
Golden residency holders who have a driver’s license from their country:
- A copy of their previous valid driver’s license.
- Results of the Knowledge Test and Road Test.
- The Valid Emirates ID.
What is the process for obtaining a driving license?
Driving tests can be taken online through the Road and Transport Authority’s (RTA’s) official website – www.rta.ae or at one of the following driving institutes in Dubai:
- Al Ahli Driving Centre
- Belhasa Driving Centre branches
- Dubai Driving Centre branches
- Dubai International Driving Centre (Drive Dubai)
- Galadari Motor Driving Centre branches
- Excellence Driving Centre
- Emirates Transport Driving Institute
- Bin Yaber Driving Centre
How to complete the online process
- Go to www.rta.ae
- In the menu tab, click on ‘Services’ and then click ‘Drivers and car owners’.
- You will need to type ‘Apply for a New Driving Licence’ in the search bar once you have landed on the services portal.
- Click on the first option, ‘Apply for a New Driving Licence’.
- Scroll down and click on the red ‘Apply Now’ button.
- Enter your Emirates ID number.
- An OTP (One-Time Password) is sent to your registered phone number to verify your identity.
- Golden Visa holders must provide a front and back copy of their previous driving license.
- Schedule the date for the knowledge and road test.
- After passing the test, pay the required fees.
Your new driving license will be issued after the process is complete.
What is the cost of issuing a new driving license to a Golden Visa holder?
- Dh100 for issuing a new driving license to a customer under the age of 21
- A new driving license costs Dh300 if the customer is over 21 years old
- Knowledge and Innovation fees of Dh20
