Roshn Group, a PIF and well-known Saudi real estate developer, has opened registration for the Musahama Design Competition’s Emerging Design Firms Track. Participants must register by September 30.
It is intended to qualify and choose designs for amenities and facilities within the flagship Sedra community. It is a component of PIF’s Musahama program.
According to the developer’s statement, the competition aims to support national talent and promote local content in keeping with Vision 2030.
Musahama Design Competition: Sedra Pedestrian Spine gives aspiring architects, recent architecture program graduates, final-year students, and up-and-coming local design firms a chance to imagine how people will live in the Kingdom in the future.
Several common amenities in Sedra Pedestrian Spine, like a park, an early education center, a neighborhood convenience store, and a mosque, will be designed by the participants.
The competition offers two tracks, each with distinct requirements that emphasize the involvement of local talent and the use of local materials in the design implementation.
According to the statement, one stream focuses on groups of Saudi students who are either in their final year of study or have just received a bachelor’s degree in architecture.
As part of its mission to support SMEs, Roshn will manage the other competition track for up-and-coming Saudi national-founded, Saudi Arabia-based architectural design firms. These firms must have fewer than 20 employees, be based in Saudi Arabia, and have been operating for less than ten years.
Roshn states that the use of local materials, design brilliance, functionality, urban response, and sustainability will all be taken into consideration when evaluating designs.
Roshn’s emerging design firms track will award a prize of SAR400,000 ($106,516) to the winning team, SAR300,000 to the second-place team, and SAR200,000 to the third-place team.
Participants will get professional development opportunities during the competition, including in-person workshops with top local and international firms and webinars. The teams will have 14 weeks to complete their designs, and in February 2025, the winners will be declared.
