A paperless tax refund programme for visitors was introduced by the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) of the United Arab Emirates and Planet Tax-Free.
The new tourist tax refund programme was unveiled on September 14 by the FTA and Planet Tax-Free.
The new strategy employs a digital platform along with registered till systems and is paperless. All visitors need to do to complete their transaction is scan their passports. Then, Planet Tax-Free receives an automatic digital invoice for their transactions.
Customers can access the user-friendly shopper site to examine their invoices when their purchase is complete. Additionally, this gateway guarantees seamless, quick, and digital tax-free buying experiences for tourists.
The environmental advantages of transitioning to a paperless VAT-return scheme are as follows:
- By cutting down on paper, the UAE will annually save 16,800 trees.
- 6,500 fewer cartridges of toner are used.
- The nation will reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 4,224 tonnes.
- Finally, they will cut back on the national resources employed in paper production.
- This includes 32,500 kWh of electricity and 5.52 million liters of water.
