Because you have many “UID” numbers issued in your name, are you having trouble applying for your UAE residency visa? If so, the answer is rather straightforward.

Each Emirate’s immigration department issues visas to every ex-pat who enters or resides in the UAE. This visa includes information such as a file number, issuing date, validity, and a “UID number,” among other things. Among other aspects of the visa, the UID number is special since it is the only one that does not change even if you go from one type of visa to another. Therefore, all of those visas would typically have the same UID number on them if you had previously visited the UAE and then returned on a family visa or an employment visa.

You might, however, occasionally receive more than one UID number issued in your name. What time does this occur? And what effects does having many UIDs have on you?

Here is everything you require to know.

What is a UID number?

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security’s (ICP) records contain the Unified Number (UID No.) listed on your visa. In 2010, the UID and the Emirates ID were both released. It is a uniform six-digit number that does not change even if you switch between visas.

Why would one need to merge UID numbers?

There are some circumstances where someone may receive multiple UIDs.

People who visit the UAE occasionally receive more than one UID number, either because they passed through various airports or because they received entrance permits with various UID numbers for various visits.

The issue of a resident visa may be complex if one person has multiple UID numbers. Multiple UID numbers could be used as the reason their visa application was rejected.

How does one merge UID numbers?

Contact the Emirate’s immigration office or a service provider that is authorised to offer the merging service to submit an application.

The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (Dubai), an Amer centre, or a recognised service provider like a typing centre would be where you would apply for the service in Dubai.

Visit a typing centre that is authorised by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security to apply for the service in other Emirates (ICP).

Documents required for UID merging

Here is a list of documents you need to submit for the request:

  • Passport copy including signature page
  • Old and current visa copies
  • Cancellation paper, if you have recently had a visa cancelled
  • UID numbers that require merging

How to apply for the service online in Dubai:

Through the GDRFA Dubai website, one may apply for the service in Dubai.

The website provides a Smart Services Form, which can be accessed here: https://smart.gdrfad.gov.ae/Smart_OTCServicesPortal/SmartServicesForm.aspx?GdfraLocale=en-US

When you are on the service page, take the following actions:

  1. Click on “Merge/Unmerge UID number” under the service category.
  2. After you choose the option, a form asking for your information will show below.
  3. Enter your name in English.  The system will automatically fill in the Arabic spelling of your name in the next field.
  4. On the website, your UID number—also known as the UDB number—must be entered.
  5. Include information on the two UID numbers that have been provided as well as any relevant file numbers in the request details.
  6. Type your mobile number and press the “Validate Mobile” option. A one-time password (OTP) will then be sent to your phone, which you must enter in order to confirm your contact information.
  7. Type your email address and press the “Continue” button.
  8. After that, you will be prompted to submit copies of your visa or entry permit, which may have a different UID number.
  9. Submit the application after finishing this step.

The request will be handled without charge and within two to three working days.
