UAE is a country that has a majority number of ex-pats living and working here. Its thriving economy attracts families and professionals from all over the world. While it is a welcoming place, there are certain basic rules for ex-pats in Dubai that are needed to be followed.

Among the Emirates, Dubai has seen tremendous growth over the years and is home to millions of ex-pats. The laws in Dubai ensure the safety and well-being of both its citizens and its expatriate residents, which is why the city has become so successful. Before moving to Dubai, a person should know the following rules:

Working in Dubai:

It is true that there are a lot of people who reside in Dubai that don’t know the laws there and thus fall prey to various problems there.

Woking illegally in Dubai is a serious crime in Dubai. The government there has clear rules for businesses that are to be followed by every organization. It is illegal to work on a tourist visa, so always make sure that you have the right documents to work in Dubai.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the laws in Dubai change frequently and thus one should keep a check on the working laws in Dubai.

Writing cheques:

Check writing isn’t as simple as you may think – think again. Dubai has severe consequences for bounced checks. A bounced check could get you behind the bars in Dubai. So it is often smart to check your cheques before submitting them.

Driving in Dubai:

As per the observation, A driving license is a thing that almost every ex-pat is keen to get as soon as they get an entry in Dubai. Dubai has very clear rules for ex-pats to get a driving license. Some people think that getting a license is a major task but the real tasks begin when you are on the road full time.

The Dubai Police has empowered and equipped people with modern technology. So, even small breaches are reported and fines are sanctioned. So as an ex-pat you should have knowledge of all the rules and regulations about driving before driving on the Dubai roads.

Religious matters:

It is illegal to make offensive remarks about religion. Dubai also forbids eating, drinking, and smoking in public from sunrise to sunset during the holy month of Ramdan. If you live in Dubai, you have to respect the local customs.

Drinking and smoking:

Alcoholic beverages are available in licensed places and you will find cafes, bars, and pubs serving alcohol. Licenses are issued to hotels, clubs, and restaurants. In order to buy and drink alcohol at home, you are required to apply for a liquor license.

One cannot drink and drive, if found guilty then it could lead you to imprisonment. Smoking is banned in several public offices and places such as shopping malls.

Use of drugs:

A number of medications and drugs are classified as narcotics in the UAE, and possessing them is illegal. If you are caught with an illegal substance, you will be deported after serving four years in prison. Therefore, be sure to check the UAE Ministry of Health’s banned substance list before importing drugs to the UAE.

ID Card:

Everyone residing in the UAE is required to have a national identity card. The registration procedure and ID card requirements for ex-pats intending to work or live in the UAE can be found at www.eida.gov.ae.

Islamic Law (Sharia):

Until proven guilty, a person is presumed innocent under Sharia Law, just like under other legal systems. Both the plaintiff and defendant are equal in the court of the law. Apostasy, murder, fornication, adultery, homosexuality, and theft are crimes that carry definite punishments under Islamic law.

So, if you want to work and live in Dubai, you are required to abide by the law of UAE.
