Do you throw trash out of your car or use your phone while driving? You could receive black points on your license in addition to the Dh1,000 fine.
Here is a list of infractions against the UAE’s federal traffic law, each of which carries a $1,000 fine.
1. Exceeding the maximum speed limit
Drivers who are ticketed for breaching the speed limit by up to 50 km/h will be fined Dh1,000.
This implies that if you are driving at 110 km/h when the speed restriction is 60 km/h, which is prominently posted on signboards along each route, you will be fined Dh1,000.
2. Crowding near a car accident
Do not crowd close to the scene of an accident if you witness one. The best course of action is to dial 999, the police emergency line. Ambulances, emergency vehicles, traffic patrols, and civil defense are unable to arrive at the accident scene in a timely manner due to congestion close to the scene. Crowding at accident scenes is punishable by a Dh1,000 punishment, according to Abu Dhabi Police.
Additionally, crowding hinders emergency responders’ ability to perform their duties and increases the risk of run-over accidents as drivers may attempt to exit their vehicles and stand close to the accident scene or curious pedestrians may attempt to cross roads while disregarding the flow of traffic.
3. Overtaking from the ‘hard shoulder’
Hard shoulders are lanes that run beside the road to the extreme right or left and are conspicuously delineated by yellow lines. A Dh1,000 punishment will be assessed to drivers who pass another car on the hard shoulder.
The hard shoulder is reserved for emergency use by ambulances, for automobiles that have broken down, and for police patrols to reach accident sites and provide emergency help, the Abu Dhabi Police informed motorists in 2017.
4. Parking in a spot reserved for People of Determination
Parking in a spot designated for People of Determination carries a Dh1,000 punishment and six black points.
5. Failure to stop in front of a school bus stop sign
To guarantee that students can cross the street safely and securely, all drivers must come to a complete stop anytime a school bus has the “stop” sign out. The distance between them should be at least five meters. A 1,000 Dh fine and 10 black points will be assessed to offenders.

6. Jumping a red light
It is unsafe to try to pass a traffic light quickly before it turns red. You put not just your life and the lives of other drivers in jeopardy, but you also risk getting fined Dh1,000. According to the UAE Traffic Law, your car will also be held for 30 days, and 12 black points will be added to your driving record. In addition to the Federal Traffic Law, each Emirate has its own traffic laws, which could result in harsher punishments for drivers.
For instance, in Dubai, you must spend Dh3,000 to have the vehicle released from impoundment before the 30-day period.
According to Law No. 5 of 2020 on car impoundment in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the punishment for running a red light in Abu Dhabi may result in even harsher punishments. According to the law, violators would receive a Dh1,000 fine and 12 traffic black points for running a red light. The car will also be held for 30 days; to have it released from impoundment, Dh50,000 is required. The driver’s license will also be suspended for a period of six months. The vehicle will be auctioned off if it is not released from impound within three months.
7. Littering from your car
Although you might not hesitate to put a bag of chips or other rubbish outside your car, doing so could result in a Dh1,000 fine and an additional six black points.
8. Sudden deviation of a vehicle
Driving swerves can cause severe injuries and serious accidents. According to Abu Dhabi Police, drivers who are not paying attention frequently cause unexpected deviations in a vehicle’s driving route. The UAE Traffic Law imposes a Dh1,000 punishment for “sudden diversion of a vehicle.”
9. Stopping your car in the middle of the road
While cars that have broken down in the middle of the road are exempt from this infraction, you will be fined Dh1,000 if your car has been stopped in the center of the road without cause.
