Those travelling by car in the United Arab Emirates should be aware that new speed limits have been implemented on major routes around the nation as a result of statements made by police officials in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah.
While the majority of roads now have a maximum speed limit, there is one important road where you must make sure you do not drive slower than the minimum speed limit when using the fast lanes.
The changes that have been announced thus far this year are listed below.
1. Sweihan Road – Maximum speed limit reduced to 120km/h
A six-kilometre stretch of Sweihan Road’s top speed limit has been lowered from 140 km/h to 120 km/h as of June 4, 2023.
According to Abu Dhabi police, the new speed limit is in effect on the road leading from Al Falah Bridge to the Abu Dhabi International Airport.
2. Two lanes on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Road – minimum speed limit 120km/h
The two lanes from the left on Abu Dhabi’s E11 now have a minimum speed limit of 120 km/h. For drivers who violate the first two lanes from the left’s minimum speed restriction, Abu Dhabi Police has instituted a Dh400 punishment beginning of May 1.
The increased speed limits are intended to improve road safety and encourage slower-moving and heavier cars to utilise the right lanes. The rightmost lane, which is intended to handle large trucks, as well as the second lane from the right, are exempt from the minimum speed requirements.
3. Dubai-Hatta Road (E44) – Maximum speed limit reduced to 80km/h
On a six-kilometre stretch of the Dubai-Hatta Road, the top speed limit has been lowered from 100 km/h to 80 km/h as of January 1, 2023. The new speed limit is in effect for the stretch of road between Dubai, Ajman, and the Al Hosn Roundabout.
Redline markings on the road have also been added to warn drivers, and the speed restriction signs have been changed to reflect this.
On January 26, the Ajman Police announced that the Dubai-Hatta Street speed limit in the Masfout neighbourhood has been decreased.
