When driving in Abu Dhabi, make sure you come to a complete stop at all stop signs. Otherwise, you might face a Dh500 fine and six black points.
The Abu Dhabi Police Department has issued a list of five regulations to follow in order to ensure that you come to a complete stop at the stop sign.
On May 27, the post was shared on Abu Dhabi Police’s official social media pages. The following are the rules to remember when approaching a stop sign, according to the article:
- Always come to a complete stop at any stop sign, junction, or solid white line that signifies the need to stop.
- Continue driving only when the road is clear.
- If a vehicle stops in front of you, you must stop behind it and then come to a complete stop at the stop sign once the vehicle in front of you has moved.
- Always give pedestrians the right of way, enabling them to cross the street before you move.
Just in the first nine months of 2021, Abu Dhabi Police stated it has documented 492 breaches of motorists failing to stop at stop signs.
Fine for not stopping
A motorist who fails to stop entirely at a stop sign is subject to a Dh500 fine and six black points under the Federal Traffic Law.
Fine for not stopping for school buses
While failing to stop at a stop sign can result in a fine and penalty points, failing to stop at a stop sign on a school bus is considered an aggravated offense.
On May 9, Abu Dhabi police issued a reminder on its official social media platforms, urging cars to come to a complete stop anytime a school bus displays the ‘stop’ sign. Violators will be fined Dh1,000 and given 10 black points, according to the UAE’s federal traffic code.
