You can ask for an exemption from late charges if you were unable to renew your Emirates ID. There are, however, some requirements that must be met.

On April 10, 2022, the ICP, or Federal Authority For Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security, informed UAE residents via their official social media channels that having vital documents, such as a passport copy and entry permit, is required to petition for the exemption.

So, if you haven’t renewed your Emirates ID in a while or were out of the country and couldn’t get a new one, here’s how you can request an exemption.

If you meet one of the following criteria, you may be eligible for a late fee waiver:

  • The number on your ID card
  • Information on how to contact us (an active mobile number and email address)
  • A valid passport in its original form
  • An original entry permit in good standing
  • Valid Original residence visa
  • Supporting evidence for the customer request – this indicates that you were unable to renew your Emirates ID for a genuine cause. There must, however, be proof supporting this.

If you fail to get your Emirates ID card or the ID cards of people under your sponsorship issued or renewed within the specified deadline, you can seek an exemption from late fees, according to ICP, but you must have a proof for the following situations.

  • Have lived outside the UAE for more than three months, or are a resident whose residence or ID card validity has ended after they have left the UAE — they must submit a travel document to prove this.

If the validity of their ID card has expired while they are overseas as a result of an executive or judicial decision, or if their passport has been detained in a case or is being renewed, they must provide an official letter from the relevant authorities.

  • A person who is bedridden has a communicable condition, or is partially or completely disabled must present a medical certificate issued by medical authorities.
  • The staff of diplomatic or consular missions in the country, as well as those who are under their supervision.
  • Senior citizens over the age of 70 who are unable to visit a customer service center must present a passport or birth certificate as proof of age.
  • Delays in the registration or issuing of an ID card owing to documentation errors, Emirates ID’s systems, one of its employees, or one of its assigned typing offices.

There are three options for requesting an exemption.

You can ask for an exemption using the formal channels listed below:

  1. Customers ’ satisfaction Centers
  2. ICP Smart Application or icp.gov.ae Smart Services
  • You can apply for an exemption online by logging in with your UAE Pass or by making an account on the website or app.
  • Go to the ‘Public Services’ section of the website or app once you’ve logged in.
  • Select ‘Application for Exemption from Delay Fees’ under ‘Emirates ID’ services.
  • You will be required to submit supporting documentation to demonstrate your eligibility for the fine waiver.
  1. Typing Centers
