Do you intend to move to another nation or return to your home country after working in the UAE? If so, under certain conditions you can be qualified for a ticket for your return.
The UAE’s Labour Law outlines in great detail what obligations companies have to their staff members, and one of those obligations is to pay for the employee’s return home. An employee must, however, fulfill a number of requirements in order to be qualified for a repatriation ticket. The law’s position on the repatriation ticket is outlined in the following guidance.
What is a repatriation ticket?
An employer’s obligations are outlined in Article 13 of the new UAE Labour Law, Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, and one of those obligations includes paying for an employee’s repatriation in specific circumstances.
One of the rights granted by law to a private sector employee in the UAE is a ticket for repatriation. Article 13 of the New Labour Law makes provision for it (12).
By agreement with the employer through the contract or by a judicial claim in the event the employer declines to supply it, the law ensures that the worker obtains a ticket to return home or elsewhere.
Situations when you are not entitled to a repatriation ticket
But there are other circumstances under which an employee might not be qualified for a repatriation ticket.
If you are leaving your job, intend to stay in the UAE, are fired for misconduct, or for any other reason that is deemed to be your fault, you are not qualified for a repatriation ticket.
As a result, you can only get a repatriation ticket if your employer has terminated your job for a reason other than those listed in Article 44 of the UAE Labour Law and you want to go back home.
People are urged to understand the distinction between an “annual ticket” and the repatriation ticket, which is issued under the situations mentioned above.
Although it is customary to provide annual flying travel, this benefit is not required by UAE labor legislation.
