New bridge in dubai

A large new bridge to Dubai Creek is being built on the Street and Transport Authority (RTA) on Sunday, April 6th, as part of Dubai’s ongoing efforts to improve connectivity and achieve rapid urban growth.

This project is part of further development of Al Shindagha Corridor, one of  RTA’s most strategic infrastructure initiatives.

The bridge is about 1,425 meters long, with four traces in all directions, with a total capacity of 16,000 units per hour. The bridge is located between the area of the Infinity Bridge and  the area of the Portrashid, rising 18.5 meters from the river and providing a 75 meters wide navigation channel for smooth driving of marine traffic.

In addition to promoting vehicle overload, the project includes dedicated pedestrians and wheel rails with lifts and 2,000 meters of surface streets at each end to connect the new structure to existing networks in the Badbai and Dubai Islands.

The bridge is an important element of the Al Shindagha Corridor Development Project, which is over 13 km and consists of 15 intersections. The corridors are useful for important areas such as Deira, Bidubai, Dubai Islands, Deira Waterfront, Dubai Maritime City, and Portrashid.

“The project is expected to benefit around one million people. Furthermore, the development of the corridor will reduce travel time from 104 minutes to just 16 minutes, yielding an estimated saving of nearly Dh45 billion over 20 years,” said Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA.

“In collaboration with Dubai Holding, RTA completed a project in 2020 that involved constructing three bridges spanning a total of 1.6 kilometres.

“It included a two-lane bridge facilitating free-flowing traffic from Dubai Islands to Al Khaleej Street northward, a three-lane bridge enabling smooth traffic from Dubai Islands to Al Khaleej Street southward, and a two-lane bridge allowing seamless traffic from Al Khaleej Street southward to Dubai Islands,” added Al Tayar.

15 areas covered

To begin construction of this new bridge,  RTA has given Dubai Holding an order worth DH786 million.

The bridge also falls under a broader  agreement on a DH6 billion transportation solution between the RTA and Dubai holdings. This ambitious plan will update the infrastructure of 15 large communities, including Dubai Islands, Jumeirah Village Triangle (JVT), Palm Beach Towers, Al Furjan, Jumeirah Park, Arjan, Majan, Liwan (Phase 1), Nad Al haaer, Villanova and Serena.

It also includes improvements in five key development zones:

Amit Kaushal, Group CEO of Dubai Holding, stated: `’This initiative will significantly improve access to Dubai Islands, facilitating smoother mobility for residents and visitors.
