New to Abu Dhabi? Here are the instructions for setting up your electric and water connections

Are you moving into a new place? To make the transition smoother, ensure sure your water and electrical connections are in place. However, if you are relocating to Abu Dhabi, this process may be much more straightforward. The government has integrated the two processes – signing a lease contract and receiving an electricity and water connection – to make the procedure easier for prospective tenants in the Emirate.

So, if you’re moving to Abu Dhabi, here’s all you need to know about getting an electricity and water connection.

How does one get a water and electricity connection in Abu Dhabi?

Your landlord is required to register your lease contract once you have signed it. The Abu Dhabi Distribution Company (ADDC), which manages utility services in the Emirate, will be notified as soon as the process is completed, and you will be given a water and electricity account and connection. The new account is created under the same name as the tenancy contract, and it can take up to 48 hours to complete.

ADDC will send you an SMS and an email once the connection has been established.

Does one need to pay a fee to activate the electricity and water connection?

While there is no fee to establish the connection, you will be required to pay a Dh1,000 security deposit or “insurance sum,” which will be included in your first bill. This payment is refundable and will be repaid to the consumer when the account is closed.

As a result, the water and power connections are set up for you immediately. After the account has been set up for a month, you should receive the first bill from ADDC.

You must complete the following steps to create your ADDC online account:

How can one pay my utility bill in Abu Dhabi?

Set up autopay with ADDC

Setting up an ‘autopay’ option with ADDC is a simple method to ensure that your payments are always paid on time. In your online account, input your debit or credit card information and select the ‘autopay’ option. Then, for each month, choose the date on which the payment should be completed.

According to ADDC, the service accepts all GCC-issued debit and credit cards.

Your bill can also be paid over the phone. When you choose to pay your bill, you will be connected to an IVR (Interactive Voice Response) system where you can input your account number and credit card information.
