Although there are many ways to apply for a resident visa, the documentation requirements include that the applicant’s passport must be valid for at least 180 days.

Your passport must be valid for more than 180 days in order to apply for a new visa or to renew one, according to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs’ (GDRFA) requirements.

If you have access to it, you can apply for a new passport online or at the consulate or embassy of your home country.

Check your passport validity in advance

It is advised to apply for a new passport well in advance if you know your current one will soon expire because some embassies or consulates may take longer to process your application.

You can then submit an application for your visa renewal after you’ve obtained your new passport. You can submit your application online, at an Amer center, or at a registered typing center.

Applicants would need to bring both of their passports if applying at a center.
