As the Dubai Metro approaches its 15th anniversary, there is an important update regarding one of its stations that you should know about. On Thursday, September 5, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that Mashreq Metro station will now be known as InsuranceMarket Metro station. If you haven’t taken a ride on the Metro recently, here are all the latest updates to the public transportation system that you should be informed about.
Where is the newly renamed station?
The Mashreq Metro Station, now known as InsuranceMarket Metro Station, is situated along Sheikh Zayed Road on the Red Line, positioned between the Mall of The Emirates and Dubai Internet City Metro Stations.
New route changes from April
Effective April 15th, the RTA has announced a significant change to the Metro Red Line route. Previously, passengers were required to transfer at Jebel Ali Metro station. However, the train will now provide direct service to either the Expo 2020 Metro station or the UAE Exchange Station. Simply ensure you board the correct Metro train based on your desired destination.
New station names
In recent years, Metro stations have undergone name changes as the RTA has awarded naming rights for these stations. For example, the Al Safa Metro station was rebranded as Onpassive last year, and the Rashidiya station was renamed Centrepoint station.
What is an interchange station?
The Dubai Metro consists of three lines: two routes for the Red Line and the Green Line. Commuters have the convenience of switching from the Red Line to the Green Line at interchange stations where the two lines meet.
It is important to understand the concept of terminal stations, which are the final stops on the route you are traveling.
