At Aldar Properties’ active living residential project in Dubai, Athlon, the company has been awarded the first LEED platinum certification in the UAE for community planning and design.
This accomplishment positions Athlon at the forefront of sustainable real estate in the United Arab Emirates, with sustainability positioned as a priority for the new community.
To achieve resilient construction and worldwide sustainable development, the US Green Building Council’s LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification is a strict, data-driven rating system.
Faisal Falaknaz, Group Chief Financial and Sustainability Officer, said, “To promote sustainable behaviour, the community is designed with energy and water saving fixtures, smart waste disposal systems, electric vehicle charging points, and a network of shaded walkways and bicycle routes to encourage sustainable transportation. It will be built using low-carbon and locally sourced materials, aligning with the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 ambition and supporting Aldar’s Net Zero goals.”
Athlon will have designated areas for sports and fitness, as well as activities that connect people with parks and green spaces within a half-mile of each villa. These features are intended to promote wellbeing and inspire a healthy living environment.
Athlon has also earned a 2-star rating from Fitwel for Communities, the premier certification program in the world that focuses on promoting universal health.
