The newest waterfront hotspot in Abu Dhabi is now under construction.
Developer Mubadala said the Al Maryah Waterfront improvement project will ‘change Al Maryah Island lifestyle products and experiences’. ‘Further boosting Abu Dhabi’s standing as a premium worldwide destination’ is the goal here.
The news coincides with the opening of a Disney theme park in Abu Dhabi and the unveiling of Bulgari’s second super-luxury project in the United Arab Emirates, following its first on Dubai’s Jumeira Bay island.
A 30-meter-tall light sphere that is “enveloped in flowing water and set within the bay” will be the focal point of the project. Complementing this will be more than 1,000 ‘AI-powered’ water jets that are more than 75 meters high and have music composed by Ramin Djawadi. (WET, one of the largest water design companies in the world, created the features.
Additionally, the development will have:
- An extension of the sea boardwalk that gives visitors access to the waterfront.
- A cooling system outside that is shaded, improving comfort in hot weather.
- The visitor experience is being improved by new F&B areas and public areas that are suitable for events.
“The Al Maryah Waterfront enhancement project is a strategic investment in the future of Al Maryah Island” said Dr. Bakheet Al Katheeri, CEO of UAE Investments at Mubadala.
“This project will deliver iconic elements that elevate the quality of life and offer a diverse experience for visitors, while reinforcing the island’s position as a premier lifestyle destination.”
On Al Maryah Island, Mubadala has a number of properties, some of which are being developed in collaboration with Aldar. The two opened the ‘One Maryah Place’, a twin skyscraper with extremely high-end office space, in October of last year.
“Attract global visitors, support the capital’s tourism ambitions, and provide premium opportunities for leisure, culture, and commercial activation” is how the new Al Maryah Waterfront will be described after it is finished.
