The Abu Dhabi-based Aldar Group has launched a Sustainable City on the Yas Island

Aldar Properties announced the launch of Sustainable City on Yas Island, a community focused on sustainability with solar panels, biodomes, and battery-powered cars.

The family-friendly development is surrounded by wide green spaces, leisurely pathways, and community farming plots. It is a walking community. The project includes jogging and cycling trails, football, basketball, and padel courts, as well as parks, lakes, biodomes, an equestrian center with stables, a track, two arenas, a gym, and numerous pools. Residents will also have access to a nursery, an autism center, a green, and sustainable mosque, and retail and F&B establishments within the neighborhood.

The Sustainable City – Yas Island will offer condominiums and townhouses distributed among 10 clusters that are open to buyers of all nationalities. Beginning on January 19, 272 condominiums and 240 townhouses in the project’s first phase will be available for purchase. Condominiums come with one, two, or three bedrooms, with the average cost of a one-bedroom unit being Dh892,000. The complex also offers townhouses with three and four bedrooms; the average cost of a three-bedroom home is Dh3.24 million.

In order to allow residents and tourists to get around without using their automobiles, a network of shared battery-powered buggies and bicycles will be made available.

Jonathan Emery, CEO at Aldar Development, said, “This new community is a hugely powerful response to the strong demand we see for a more sustainable way of living, with the emergence of a more environmentally conscious customer group who seek the fundamental principles of a circular economy.”

The development will be powered by clean renewable energy, featuring solar panels integrated into every parking structure, as one of the Estidama 3-pearl communities in Abu Dhabi. To further reduce carbon emissions, water use, energy use, and trash, the neighborhood will also benefit from recycling facilities, sustainability technology, community design concepts, and high-efficiency water systems.

The Sustainable City – Yas Island, which was unveiled in January 2022 at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, is the result of a joint venture with Diamond Developers, the company behind The Sustainable City brand. The project’s construction will start in Q2 2023, and the first handovers are anticipated in Q4 2025.
