The first phase of Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) will be completed by 2032, allowing 150 million passengers to pass annually. Once operated, it will take over all flight operations from top officer Dubai International Airport (DXB),  announced on Thursday.

As part of the move, a DH1 billion contract was awarded for the construction of a second runway at DWC. The announcement was made by Khalifa al-Zafin, chairman of Dubai Air City Corporation,  on the edge of the airport show.

Earlier this week, authorities presented design details for what is being dubbed the “most futuristic airport in the world.” Al Zaffin said that conversations with contractors are ongoing and stated that the team is “moving decisively” to complete the project on time.
