Al Wasl Plaza in Expo City secures Guinness World Record

Due to its residence of the tallest tower, the deepest swimming pool, and the tallest landmark sign in the world, Dubai owns many Guinness World Records.

Al Wasl Plaza in Expo City now has a Guinness World Record, adding to the city’s outstanding collection of global records.

The largest interactive immersive dome title belongs to Expo City’s dome, Al Wasl Plaza, according to the Guinness Book of World Records.

Alwaleed Osman, Official Adjudicator at Guinness World Records, said on the unveiling of the award: “Al Wasl Plaza stands as a testament to architectural excellence and a distinguished structure that resonates with those who have had the privilege of experiencing it.

“Its recognition in Guinness World Records underscores the commitment of Expo 2020, and the subsequent Expo City Dubai, to innovation and excellence.”

Its 130-meter diameter and 67-meter height are large enough to put the Leaning Tower of Pisa underneath it. Visitors can view immersive 360-degree videos projected on the dome’s surface.

Images may be seen on the building from either inside or outside the dome because of up to 252 laser projectors.

Al Wasl Plaza was created by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture and was constructed using distinctive materials that allow for year-round use.

The semi-outdoor area features a steel trellis framework, and the design was motivated by the Expo 2020 exhibition’s emblem. Fun fact: At the top of the dome, the emblem is clearly visible.

Al Wasl Plaza served as a focal point for activities during Expo 2020 Dubai and will once again host the UNTOLD music festival the following year.

Following the announcement of its most recent prize, Al Wasl Plaza, which presents daily projection shows, inaugurated the new Al Wasl Plaza Café, a local brand serving Arabic fusion food.
