Mövenpick in RAK has got its Longest Suspended Bridge at 36m

RAK AMI Hotel, Ras AL Khaimah-based developer, has informed that the under-construction $147.8m(AED543m)Mövenpick Resort Al Marjan Island has recorded the installation of the longest suspended bridge at 36m, hence connecting the two different buildings of the resort.

The suspended bridge will work as the connection for the hotel and also will have eight rooms and it is supported by four primary trusses, each with a weight of 55 tonnes. And each truss is for about 4m and it is installed at a height of about 44.2m.

The bridge’s structure was assembled all together at the base floor with intermediate beams and a composite floor deck. At the ground floor, the bridge was assembled in two pieces comprising two trusses each and then lifted in place with the help of a 650-tonne crawler crane. Also, the bridge has been fabricated with the help of 310 tonnes of structural steel.

The bridge project right from the beginning i.e. from design to installation- was completed in about 65 days with the help of more than 55 professionals and well-skilled workers. Also, the work for the installation of the suspended bridge is completed successfully, following all the safety measures including traffic management, keeping in mind the safety of the public and also the safety of the staff. Also, keep in mind all the COVID-19 precautionary measures that should be taken during the construction and installation process.

The offering of the bridge will offer vantage viewing points opening to views of Al Marjan Island and also the residents in the hotel rooms which are located within the bridge.

The bridge is calculated to become the main and primary tourist landmark and also add new economic values to AI Marjan Island and Ras Al Khaimah.

Talking about the milestone, chairman of RAK AMI Hotel, Arch Abdulla Al Abdooli, said: “The suspended bridge is designed to be one of the iconic features of the Mövenpick Resort Al Marjan Island that will not only add to the aesthetics of the project but also create an inspiring architectural marvel that delight visitors to Al Marjan Island. We are progressing with the construction of the hotel as per schedule, with an international team of professionals on-site. The suspended bridge will be a value-add for the hotel and support the emirate’s tourism sector.”

Mövenpick Resort Al Marjan Island is expected to be launched as per schedule by September 2021. The hotel which is located within AI Marjan Island is all set to accommodate 418 hotel keys, all having direct sea views. Guests will have the option of choosing from large-sized family rooms, suites, or 28 beachfront chalets with private pools and gardens.

Right now, Al Marjan Island has over 1,600 operational five-star hotel keys, including Rixos Hotels, Hilton Hotels & Resorts, and Accor Hotels brands, and more than 2,000 residential units including Bab Al Bahar residential and Pacific by Select Group.

In conversation with the Construction Week in an exclusive interview in 2020, Arch Abdooli said about the Mövenpick Resort: “The uniqueness about the [Mövenpick] project is that both sides of the resort offer a panoramic sea-facing view, owing to its strategic location. We spend a lot of time focusing on our design and quality to ensure uniqueness and value across our project. As part of our design strategy for the project, we have incorporated chalets within the resort for the first time, in addition to infinity pools and clubhouses, along with other elements to create a community within a community.”

NSCC, which was awarded the excavation, piling, and enabling works for the project, finished its work in February 2019. RAK AMI Hotel has given the construction contract to Al Ali Construction & Development in February 2019, following a tender with three other contractors.
