Next week, the world will witness the grand opening of one of the largest airport terminals in existence, located in Abu Dhabi. This remarkable structure, known as Terminal A at the Abu Dhabi International Airport, was previously referred to as the Midfield Terminal during its construction phase. With its completion, Terminal A will possess the remarkable capacity to accommodate up to an astounding 45 million passengers annually, offering flights to an impressive 117 destinations across the globe.

Perhaps you have already caught a glimpse of this extraordinary terminal in the past. It was the very terminal that welcomed back UAE astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi upon his triumphant return from his groundbreaking space mission. Additionally, this terminal played a prominent role in the Hollywood blockbuster Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, captivating audiences with its awe-inspiring presence. Soon, you too will have the opportunity to embark on your own journey from this magnificent terminal, as it opens its doors to the public next week.

When does Terminal A open?

Abu Dhabi International Airport’s Terminal A is set to commence operations on November 1, 2023. Prior to the official opening, Etihad Airways will grace the occasion with a ceremonial flight scheduled for October 31.

In addition to Etihad Airways, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi and 15 other esteemed international airlines will also commence operations from the new terminal on November 1, as confirmed by the Abu Dhabi Media Office.

When will daily flights start?

Starting from November 9th, Etihad Airways will commence 16 daily flights, leading up to its complete operational transition on November 14th, alongside Air Arabia Abu Dhabi and 10 additional airlines.

As of November 14th, Terminal A will witness the full operational capacity of 28 airlines.

Where is the new terminal located?

Terminal A is an impressive expansion of the renowned Abu Dhabi International Airport. Situated in the Al Matar area, this state-of-the-art terminal offers seamless accessibility through Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Street – E10.

According to Etihad Airways, passengers can now traverse from the curb to the gate in a mere 19 minutes, encompassing the entire process from check-in to boarding. This remarkable efficiency is made possible by the presence of 34 cutting-edge eGates equipped with advanced passport and eye scanners, alongside 38 immigration counters.

Once Terminal A reaches its full operational capacity, it will introduce revolutionary facial recognition technology to expedite passenger screening and minimize waiting times. This state-of-the-art system will revolutionize the travel experience, ensuring a seamless journey for all.
