What is the procedure for getting a booster shot?
A COVID-19 booster shot is available if you have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and a three- to six-month gap has passed since your second dose.
COVID-19 vaccines as booster doses:
EHS provides booster shots for the following vaccines:
Pfizer-BioNTech:
All individuals over the age of 18 are eligible. Pfizer booster doses are only administered after six months from your second dose of the vaccine.
Sinopharm:
All individuals who are over 16 years old and have received two doses of Sinopharm vaccine are eligible for this vaccination. Sinopharm is recommended for low-risk groups six months after the second dose. It is recommended for high-risk groups three months after the second dose.
What are the high-risk groups?
These are the high-risk groups that are susceptible to contracting COVID-19, according to EHS:
- Individuals over 50 years old
- Individuals who are within the obese category
- Smokers
- Immunocompromised individuals
- Frontliners
- Patients with chronic diseases
As of December 21, the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) urged all individuals over 18 who have completed six months since taking their second vaccine to visit their nearest vaccination center to receive their booster shot.
