Update on Dubai Metro: Skip the Jebel Ali switch from April 15 onwards

Starting April 15, passengers taking the Metro can expect a faster journey on the Red Line. The need to change trains at the Jebel Ali Metro station, previously an interchange station on the Red Line, will be eliminated.

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced these changes to improve the efficiency of the Metro system. Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming changes.

Understanding the Red Line

The Red Line of the Dubai Metro features the Centrepoint Metro station in Rashidiya at one end, which serves as a terminal station. On the opposite end of the line, there are two additional stations – the Expo 2020 Metro Station and the UAE Exchange Station in Jebel Ali, Dubai. At the Jebel Ali station, the route branches out in a Y junction.

Currently, passengers can travel from the Centrepoint Metro station to the Expo 2020 Metro station. However, if a passenger wishes to reach the UAE Exchange station, they must disembark at the Jebel Ali Metro station to transfer trains.

How will the experience change?

Starting April 15th, passengers will no longer need to transfer trains at Jebel Ali station once the new schedule is in place.

If you are traveling from Centrepoint Station, you will now have the convenience of taking a direct train to either Expo 2020 station or UAE Exchange station.

How will one know which train is going to the station?

According to the recent announcement by RTA, terminal station information will be prominently displayed on information screens at the platforms and announced via public service announcements upon the train’s arrival. This initiative aims to enhance the passenger experience by providing clear and easily accessible information to ensure passengers are heading to the correct station.

In addition to the digital displays and announcements, station staff will be readily available to assist passengers and ensure they board the correct train according to their desired route. This personalized assistance further reinforces RTA’s commitment to providing a seamless and efficient transportation service for all passengers.
