UAE Pass: How to sign government documents online

Are you in need of signing a contract but find the traditional process of printing, signing, and scanning documents to be a hassle? Look no further than the UAE Pass app on your phone, which offers a convenient solution for official document signing.

The UAE Pass app serves as the national digital identity for citizens, residents, and visitors in the UAE. With this app, you gain access to a plethora of government and private services. Moreover, it provides the added benefit of allowing you to sign documents and request digital versions of essential government documents such as your Emirates ID, driving license, and labor card.

To utilize the app for signing official documents, it is necessary to set up your digital signature in advance. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do so.

How to create a digital signature

To begin, ensure that you have the UAE Pass app installed on your Apple or Android device and that you possess an active account within the application.

Now, let’s proceed with the following instructions:

Step 1: Create a ‘Signing Password’

To get started, open the app and navigate to the ‘Profile’ section located in the menu tab at the bottom of your mobile screen.

Next, select ‘Reset Signing Password’. You will be presented with two options to create your signing credentials: face verification or visiting a UAE Pass kiosk. Opt for the first option.

Tap ‘Continue’ to grant the app permission to scan your face for biometric verification.

Following that, you will be prompted to create a password for your ‘signature keys’. Enter your desired password, confirm it, and then click ‘send’.

Once the password has been successfully created, you will receive a notification indicating ‘success’. Simply click ‘done’ to complete the process.

Step 2: Start signing your document

Step 3: Share the signed document with others

To access the signed document, navigate to the ‘Documents’ section and select ‘Uploaded’. Your signed document will be available here. You can download or share the document by clicking on the share option located at the bottom of the screen.

Be aware that your digital signature will expire after a period of three years.

How to verify a digital signature

If you have received a document that has been digitally signed through the UAE Pass, you can easily verify its authenticity using the UAE Pass app. Simply tap on the ‘Verify signature’ option on the app’s homepage, and the document will be promptly verified by UAE Pass. This verification option greatly simplifies the process of submitting digitally signed documents to government departments in the UAE.

In addition to the UAE Pass app, you can also verify a digitally signed document using Adobe Acrobat Reader. The verify feature on the UAE Pass app functions similarly to Adobe Acrobat, ensuring that if a digital signature has been verified on the UAE Pass app, Adobe will also recognize it as valid. This provides an added layer of assurance and compatibility for users.
