UAE: Just bought a car? You can complete the registration process by following these steps

Have you chosen the perfect vehicle for you yet? Even if choosing a vehicle that meets your needs and lifestyle can take some time, registering it in the UAE only takes a few minutes.

Even while the majority of the process can be finished online, it may change slightly depending on whether you’re purchasing a new or used car.

Here is how you can complete the vehicle registration process in the UAE.

Registering a brand-new car

The registration procedure for new automobiles purchased from authorized showrooms is handled by the car dealership, according to u.ae, the official information portal for the United Arab Emirates.

Documents you need to provide

While the vehicle agency will handle the registration process for the vehicle, you will need to give them the following paperwork:

The company will next submit applications for your car’s insurance and registration. You will receive a vehicle ownership certificate, a vehicle registration card, a license plate, and a registration expiry sticker once the procedure is finished.

Cost: The cost for registration is Dh400

Registering a second-hand or used car

Make sure there are no fines on the car and look up its accident history before purchasing a used car.

Once you have made the decision to proceed with the purchase, you will need to speak with the seller, who may be a used car dealership or a private vehicle owner, as they must start the online transaction process.

Depending on whether you are registering your car in Dubai or another Emirate, the procedure will change slightly.

Registering a second-hand car in Dubai

The Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) Dubai Drive app makes it possible for you to complete the registration process in large part online.

The seller must download the app and sign in with their UAE Pass, as well as you.

The actions that must be taken are listed below:

  1. The seller must first choose the car he wants to sell on the app, and then from the list of services offered, choose “Change Vehicle Ownership.” The seller, however, will only make use of this service if there are no outstanding fines or if the car is still financed by a bank.
  2. The seller must then include information about your (the potential buyer’s) Emirates ID.
  3. Next, a sales purchase agreement (SPA) must be digitally signed by the seller. The UAE Pass app can be used to finish the signing.
  4. After that, the SPA will be provided to you (the buyer), who must sign it similarly. You must here pay the SPA fees, which are roughly Dh450, as well as a knowledge fee payment of Dh20.
  5. The seller must go to an RTA customer happiness center to pick up the car number plates after the money has been made on your end. This procedure must be followed within two weeks of the SPA being signed and service fees being paid in order to effectuate the transfer of ownership of the vehicle.
  6. You will be informed by RTA when the plates have been delivered. Then, based on your preferences, you can decide to collect the same license plate for the car or select a different one.

Abu Dhabi – ‘Tamm’ app

The seller will need to start the process in Abu Dhabi as well. The steps that must be taken are listed below:

  1. Get the “Tamm” app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
  2. After that, open the app and sign in using your UAE Pass.
  3. Select ‘Drive and Transport’ from the menu.
  4. Choose “Manage your vehicle” from the area.
  5. Select the “Request to Transfer Vehicle Ownership” service by scrolling down.
  6. Press the “Start” key.
  7. Specify if you are a “person” or “business.”
  8. The Tamm platform will next check to see if a car is indeed registered with your Emirates ID. The registration information for your vehicle will be stored in the system automatically because your UAE Pass and Emirates ID are linked. The license plate number and the Traffic Code number are included (T.C. No.).
  9. After that, enter the T.C. No. from the buyer’s license. After it is completed, pay the transfer fees.

To complete the transfer, the buyer must pick up the vehicle registration card, expiration sticker, and number plate at the nearest traffic department customer service center, which is located at an Abu Dhabi Police Station.

Cost: Dh350 for light vehicles.

  2. Then sign in with your UAE Pass.
  3. Once the app is open, select the Services category at the bottom of your smartphone’s display.

  7. Next, type the buyer’s T.C. No.
  8. Next, choose whether you wish to renew the vehicle’s registration or reserve the license plate.
