Dubai: The largest aquarium in the Middle East opened this week in Abu Dhabi, with 46,000 animals spread over ten zones. More than 200 sharks and rays are also housed at the National Aquarium Abu Dhabi, representing 25 different species. The animals are all cared for by a team of 80 sea-life experts. If you are interested in diving deep into engaging with the sea creatures, here is all you need to know about the latest attraction.

National Aquarium Abu Dhabi – what is it?

Opening on November 12, 2021, the aquarium is part of the latest Al Qana development in Abu Dhabi. Families can visit the aquarium’s ten different zones, which include:

UAE’s Natural Treasures

There is a section dedicated to the UAE’s historical roots in pearl diving, where you can see how oysters and pearls are naturally formed while exploring the rich diversity of animals that inhabit the coasts of the Eastern Arabian Peninsula.

Red Sea Wreck

In this zone, you can explore the underwater world through a shipwreck, where you can see hundreds of fish and coral found in the Arabian Red Sea.

Atlantic Cave

This cave zone offers visitors a chance to see some of the creatures that inhabit these caves which were formed millions of years ago through erosion and plate movement across oceans.

The Sub

Explore the magical world beneath the waves while learning about submarine operations in this zone.

Ring of Fire

Located on the outskirts of the Pacific Ocean, the Ring of Fire chain of volcanoes is the longest in the world. Visitors to this zone can learn how volcanoes’ dynamic ecosystem contributes to marine life.

Ocean Magic

This zone represents all the complex and ever-changing environments of the oceans.

Frozen Ocean

Wildlife in the Arctic is represented in this zone, which is situated at the northernmost point of the Earth. Here, visitors will be able to see how animals such as Arctic sea birds and fish live in these icy waters.

Flooded Forest

Only 2 percent of Earth’s surface is covered by rainforests, yet they contain over 50 percent of the world’s biodiversity. You can explore the mysteries of rainforests in this zone.

Bu Tinah Island

In and around Bu Tinah Island in Abu Dhabi, these zones showcase the diverse range of marine life that thrives.

Opening Hours:

Every day, the aquarium is open from 10 am to 10 pm.

Cost:

General Admission – Dh105

This ticket allows the holder to walk through all 10 zones.

Beyond the Glass – Dh130

Tickets include a glass bridge walk and a behind-the-scenes experience.

Bu Tinah Dhow – Dh150

Ticket holders can take a tour on a glass-bottomed boat with this ticket.

All-access – Dh200

You have access to all the experiences mentioned above with this ticket.
