Sharjah: How to report a minor traffic accident

If you find yourself in a minor car accident in Sharjah and your vehicle sustains slight damage, you now have the option to report the incident by calling 80092. This new number was launched by Sharjah Police and Rafid Vehicle Solutions on Friday, May 31.

Rafid, an automotive solutions company, is owned by Sharjah Asset Management Company, the investment arm of the Sharjah government. Among the services offered by Rafid are roadside assistance and responding to minor traffic accidents in the emirate.

Motorists can choose to report the accident by dialing the toll-free number 80092 or by using the Rafid app, which is compatible with both Apple and Android devices. It is worth noting that the previous number, 80072343, remains active and can still be used to report minor accidents, according to Sharjah Police.

How does one know if the accident is minor?

According to the official government portal of the UAE, u.ae, a minor accident is defined as one in which no one sustains injuries. In the event that you are involved in such an accident, it is crucial to promptly move your vehicle to the shoulder lane in order to prevent any obstruction of traffic flow.

Why should motorists use the Rafid service?

If you are involved in an accident, you have the choice to contact 999 and inform the Sharjah Police. However, this option may result in a wait for the patrol to arrive, conduct an investigation, and generate a report. Alternatively, the Rafid service offers a convenient solution for motorists by providing a quick report issuance within minutes. This can be done by uploading photos of the accident and providing vehicle details. It is essential to be aware that the Rafid service is a paid service.

How can one report the accident through Rafid?

To begin using the Rafid app, simply download it from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Once the app is downloaded, you will need to create an account. Enter your mobile number and then input the one-time password (OTP) that you receive on your phone.

After verifying your phone number, you will be prompted to enter your full name and email address to complete the registration process. Once registered, navigate to the homepage of the app and click on ‘accident reporting’.

When prompted, indicate whether both parties agree on the faulty vehicle by selecting yes or no. The app will then detect your current location, provided you have granted it access to your phone’s location settings.

Next, input your vehicle’s details including the license number, date of license expiry, traffic code number, and plate number and code. Following this, enter your contact details and personal information such as gender, date of birth, nationality, mobile number, and email address.

Upload images of your driving license (front and back) and then proceed to upload pictures of the vehicle damage and accident. If it is a minor accident, settle the required fees for the accident report. If you require traffic patrol services, you can call the Rafid number at 800 72343. Please note that requesting patrol services incurs an additional charge, but can be beneficial in cases of disagreement between involved motorists regarding fault.

If patrol services are not requested, you will receive the accident report via email and SMS within 15 minutes. However, if patrol services are requested, the report will be provided by the patrol officers.
