New to Abu Dhabi? Tawtheeq lease contract registration: what you need to know

New to Abu Dhabi? Here is what you need to know about lease contract registration - Tawtheeq

Are you considering relocating to Abu Dhabi? Whether you are new to the UAE or coming to Abu Dhabi from another Emirate, it is crucial to understand how to register your new tenancy contract.

In Abu Dhabi, tenancy contracts are registered through a process known as Tawtheeq, which is overseen by the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT).

How does one register for Tawtheeq?

The landlord – who might be the property owner or a property management firm – is obligated to register the tenancy contract with Tawtheeq whenever you sign a tenancy contract with them.

After you sign the contract, the landlord will request for the lease to be registered with DMT.

How much is Tawtheeq?

The cost of registering a property with Tawtheeq is Dh1,000, although the landlord or property management firm is responsible for this.

How can one view or download the Tawtheeq document?

While you are not needed to apply for Tawtheeq, you will be expected to present it as part of the documentation for a variety of government services, such as filing for a dependents’ visa or a resident parking permit.

Only until the landlord or property management business has finished the registration process can tenants view the Tawtheeq document. All Abu Dhabi renters must first create a ‘Smart Hub’ account with Abu Dhabi DMT in order to access the form. The following are the steps to viewing your Tawtheeq:

  1. Log in with your UAE Pass account on the Smart Hub by Abu Dhabi DMT online platform smarthub.adm.gov.ae/login. It’s worth noting that in order to use the smart hub of the Abu Dhabi Municipality, you’ll need a UAE Pass account.
  2. You will be led to your own dashboard after logging in with your UAE Pass. The dashboard displays the most recent DMT alerts, as well as pending application approvals and completed paperwork.
  3. After the landlord has registered your Tawtheeq, you can find the document in the ‘Completed’ area of your Smart Hub’s dashboard.
