If you are a driver in Abu Dhabi who has accumulated a number of traffic tickets, you can now get a 25% to 35% discount, according to the Abu Dhabi police.

On April 25, Abu Dhabi police issued a message on its official social media channels encouraging drivers to pay their traffic penalties early to receive the reduction.

How can one get a discount on traffic fines in Abu Dhabi?

The Abu Dhabi Police Department has introduced a plan that assures that motorists who pay their penalties faster will receive a larger reduction. Depending on when you pay your traffic penalties, you may be eligible for a discount:

35 percent discountIf you pay your traffic fines within two months of the violation, you will receive a 35% discount.

25 percent discountPaying the traffic fines within one year of the infringement results in a 25% discount.

According to the Abu Dhabi Police phone center ‘Aounak,’ there is no unique procedure for receiving the discount. Depending on when the infringement was committed, the reduction was applied to all motorists.

Motorists were also advised of the possibility of paying fines in interest-free installments when the announcement was made on April 25. Abu Dhabi Police revealed in a statement that it has partnered with five UAE banks to pay the traffic charge in installments, with no additional expenses.

The five banks are:

  1. First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB)
  2. Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB)
  3. Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB)
  4. Emirates Islamic Bank
  5. Mashreq Al Islami Bank

The driver must have a credit card from one of these banks in order to use this service. The motorist must contact the bank directly and request that their traffic fines be paid in installments, according to Abu Dhabi Police call center ‘Aounak.’

More than Dh7,000 in fines? It’s possible that the vehicle will be impounded

Apart from the introduction of interest-free payments and traffic fee concessions, Abu Dhabi Police have cautioned that motorists who owe more than Dh7,000 in traffic penalties must pay the entire amount within three months, or their vehicle would be confiscated and sold at public auction.

According to ‘Law No. 5 for 2020 on the impoundment of vehicles in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi,’ careless drivers’ automobiles will be impounded if their traffic fines surpass Dh7,000.
