How to get an Emirates ID in a few hours

Want to renew your Emirates ID? Since the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security now allows applicants to complete the entire process online, the process has been made extremely easy for applicants. Whether you’re applying for your own Emirates ID or one of your dependents, here are the steps to follow.

1. The first step is to get a UAE Pass

In the first place, you should make a UAE Pass account for yourself. The UAE Pass is an initiative to shift towards smart government systems so that once you have it, you can log into a department’s online portal easily without having to create multiple accounts. Thus, you can access the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) or Ministry of Interior online portal to update your vehicle registration or book an online appointment for the COVID-19 vaccine all by logging into one online account.

In addition, the latest update allows you to create the UAE Pass and use it for logging in to various portals using facial recognition technology, leveraging the fact that most online users own smartphones.

Alternatively, you can register an ICA account here using your Emirates ID and registered mobile number: https://ica.gov.ae/en/

2. Ensure the documents are ready

In order to begin the process, you will need to have copies of the following documents saved to upload when needed:

You will also need to upload a copy of your Emirates ID (front and back) when applying for your dependent’s Emirates ID.

3. Use the online service to get started

The Emirates ID renewal service can be accessed either through the ICA website – www.ica.gov.ae – or through the ICA smartphone app (available for both Apple and Android phones).

You will need to sign in. In case you choose to log in through UAE Pass, you will be redirected to the UAE Pass app on your phone, which may verify your identity using either the facial recognition feature or your pin.

You will now be able to access your dashboard on the ICA app or website, as soon as your identity has been verified.

4. You can renew Emirates ID by choosing service

The Emirates IDs associated with your account can be renewed under the category ‘Emirates ID’. Your Emirates ID, as well as those of the family members or domestic workers you sponsor, would be included. Click on ‘Renew Emirates ID’.

5. Upload your documents

Next, you will be asked to upload the necessary documents, including the applicant’s photo, old Emirates ID, and passport copy.

In addition, you would need to provide information on whether you want to receive the Emirates ID at your home or office or pick it up from an Emirates Post office near you. Delivery charges will apply.

6. Make a payment

Following this, you would need to make the necessary payment, which would be determined by the duration of your visa. The Emirates ID is linked to the visa, so they have the same duration. You would need to pay Dh200 for the card issuance along with Dh40 for service fees for a two-year visa.

Golden Visas, which are valid for 10 years, cost Dh1,000 for card issuance and Dh40 for service fees.

7. Once approved, you can access the digital copy of your Emirates ID.

Upon completing the process, you will receive an email notification confirming that your application has been submitted. When the application is approved, which usually takes a few hours, you will be able to access the digital copy of your Emirates ID through the ICA app.

Emirates ID not only has new data security features but also has a new interface. Click here for more information:

When you have a digital copy of your Emirates ID, you can use it to complete other processes, such as applying for health insurance. To verify identity, the ICA had asked all service providers to accept the digital copy of the new Emirates ID, which can be accessed through the ICA app.

8. Get a physical copy of your Emirates ID

Once the Emirates ID application has been approved, it will be sent to the ICA for printing. You will receive a notification via email and SMS once it is printed. After that, you can pick up your ID at an Emirates Post office near you or, if you have paid for the delivery option, it will be delivered directly to your home.
