If a resident of the UAE is planning to leave the country forever, then in that case they are required to cancel their residence visa. Though the whole process is done mainly by the sponsor, one needs to check that the process is smooth. Before canceling the residence visa pay off any debt, cancel the tenancy contract and other bills so that it will not affect the visa cancellation procedure.
The individual or the company that has sponsored you can only apply for cancellation of your residence visa. However, if you hold an investor visa, you can initiate the process on your own.
How can a company request for cancelling the UAE residence visa?
The company at first must apply for cancelling your labor card and contract at the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. (Your signature is mandatory on the application)
The company needs to cancel the work permit also. However, all this is done with your consent only i.e. a letter with your signature stating that you have received your dues, gratuity, repatriation expenses, and other benefits is required. This serves as proof that you and your company have agreed to all the terms stated in the application.
After all these steps, you will receive a clearance statement that will help you generate a visa cancellation request at GDRFA (The General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs).
How can investors get their visas cancelled?
Investors must prepare official documentation including the NOC from the local sponsor along with information on the transfer of liabilities. They are required to submit a copy of their sponsor’s Emirates ID, and also they need to give confirmation that all dues have been cleared with the bank.
There are two ways to apply for cancelling the resident visa:
- Cancel it in-person
- Cancel it Online
In-person:
1. Visit a typing center that is registered with GDRFA.
2. Submit all the documents including
- Copies of your sponsor’s passport
- Person’s visa page copy
- Clearance statement for all financial liabilities
- One’s original Emirates ID card and passport
3. Tell the GDFRA Branch that you require to cancel your visa or your dependant’s visa.
4. Pay the cancellation fees.
5. Then the GDFRA will provide you with an application form, sign the form, and get it signed by your sponsor.
6. After signing the application, visit GDFRA head office along with the sponsor’s passport, visa page, Emirates ID card, and original passport.
7. Return your Emirates ID (in your absence, your sponsor can request for visa cancellation process presenting the computerized extract of their residence visas or an original passport).
Cancel it Online:
Visit the GDRFA website and initiate the process from there. Also, one can download the GDRFA app and apply it there. After submitting the application, visit the GDRFA office with Emirates ID, original passport, and the complete residency cancellation process.
For how long can one stay in the UAE after the cancellation of their UAE residence visa?
Once your visa is cancelled, you can stay for a maximum of 30 days.
