The mere thought of losing all this can be an incredibly stressful experience. However, if you do find yourself in this unfortunate position, there are steps you can take to secure your data and enhance the likelihood of recovering your phone.

First and foremost, it is imperative to report the loss of your phone to your telecom service provider. Not only will this help safeguard your personal information, but it will also enable them to take necessary measures to prevent unauthorized access to your accounts. Additionally, it is crucial to file a police complaint, as this will initiate an official investigation into the matter. By providing the authorities with all the relevant details, you increase the chances of locating and retrieving your lost device.

Remember, time is of the essence when it comes to recovering a lost phone. Act swiftly and follow these steps to protect your data and maximize the possibility of reuniting with your beloved device.

Block your mobile phone number immediately

In a recent online post, the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) of the UAE has issued important advice for individuals who have lost their mobile phones or had them stolen. It is crucial to take immediate action by contacting your telecom service provider to block your mobile number. Here are the steps to follow for each provider:

– For Etisalat customers, you can call 101 or visit the nearest service center to request the blocking of your mobile number.
– For du customers, please call 155 or visit the nearest service center to have your mobile number blocked.

Virgin Mobile users can take the following steps to block their mobile number: Open the Virgin Mobile app and locate the icon with a question mark in the top right corner. Tap on the icon and select the “Send us a message” option. This will direct you to the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page within the app. If you have a specific question or concern, you can send a message directly through the chat function.

When reporting your lost or stolen phone, it is essential to provide specific information, including your details, the time and location where you lost your phone, and any device specifications you can provide. By providing these details, you can ensure that your mobile phone number and SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card are promptly blocked and prohibited from unauthorized use. This action will effectively prevent any unauthorized calls, messages, or data usage.

Taking immediate action to block your mobile number is crucial in safeguarding your personal information and preventing any misuse of your device. Contact your telecom service provider as soon as possible to ensure the necessary measures are taken to protect your privacy and security.

What happens when you report a lost phone in the UAE?

According to a public service announcement issued by TDRA in 2023, in the event of theft or loss, the service provider will verify the details and seek customer approval to initiate a blocking process for the device.

Subsequently, the service provider will include the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number of the device in the database of blacklisted devices. Within 24 hours of reporting the incident, your mobile phone will be rendered inaccessible to any network.

Upon recovery of the device, it will take an additional 24 hours for your phone to be unlocked, allowing it to be used once again.
