Have you misplaced your driver’s license? In only a few days, you could have a new one.
While losing important documents such as your driver’s license can be stressful, you can apply for a replacement online and have the card mailed to you.
In the UAE, transport authorities provide online facilities that allow motorists to request for a replacement driving license if they lose theirs. Here’s how to get one from the UAE Ministry of Interior and Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) (MOI).
How to apply for a lost driving license with RTA online
It’s vital to know that in order to apply for a new license, you must pay off all outstanding penalties and fees with RTA. Additionally, the old license should be valid. The service is not applicable to expired driver’s licenses.
Important details
You must have the following information with you in order to use this service:
- Copy of valid Emirates ID
- Driving license number and issue date
- Traffic File Number
Access the service online
To begin, go to rta.ae and select ‘Services’ from the navigation tab, then ‘Driver & Car Owner’ Services.
Then, under the third heading, ‘Driving Licences,’ select the second option, ‘Apply for Replacing Lost or Damaged Driving Licence.’
Once you’ve arrived at the service’s page, select the red ‘Apply Now’ link.
Verify your driving license information
Then you’ll be sent to traffic.rta.ae, which is a gateway for RTA’s vehicle and license services.
Choose the option for ‘Damaged, lost driving license replacement’ under the second item, ‘Driving license Services.’
You would then need to enter any one of the following details:
Plate number
License Application – Registration number, registration date, and birth year.
Upload Emirates ID copy and enter personal information
After that, click confirm. Then you’ll be taken to the registration page. Fill in your information, such as:
Full Name
Date of Birth
Mobile Number
Emirates ID number
Address
Upload a copy of the front and back of your Emirates ID after inputting your personal information. Click ‘Submit’ when you’re finished.
Pay the fees online and receive the driving license via courier
After that, you’ll be taken to the payment channel. A lost or damaged driving license costs Dh300 to replace (as well as Dh20 in knowledge fees). You can pay with a credit or debit card.
Following that, you will receive an email with a temporary driver’s license. The new driving license can be obtained at the Customer Happiness Centres in Deira and Al Barsha, or via courier for an extra fee of Dh25. The card will be supplied in three working days, according to RTA’s call centre (800 9090).
