Emirates ID self-service kiosks will be available 24/7 soon - everything you need to know

UAE citizens and residents will soon have the convenience of completing their biometrics and obtaining their Emirates ID or UAE passports in a matter of minutes through self-service kiosk machines.

This groundbreaking service, known as the ‘Biometric Self-Enrolment Station,’ was unveiled by the Federal Authority of Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) at Gitex 2023, a prestigious technology fair held at the Dubai World Trade Centre from Monday, October 16 to Friday, October 20.

One of the key advantages of this kiosk service is the elimination of the need for appointments and visits to a physical center. Instead, individuals can effortlessly complete the process themselves at any time, as the kiosks will be accessible 24/7.

The user-friendly nature of these machines makes them accessible to everyone, including individuals with disabilities. Equipped with motion sensors and a hydraulic system, the kiosk can adjust its height to accommodate individuals of varying statures, ensuring accurate fingerprint scanning and photo capture.

The ICP has announced that this service is expected to be fully implemented by 2024, revolutionizing the way UAE citizens and residents obtain their identification documents.

Step 1: Complete the application online and go to a kiosk

To begin the process of renewing or obtaining an Emirates ID or passport, the first step is to fill out the application form online. This can be done conveniently through the ‘UAEICP’ mobile app or the smartservices.icp.gov.ae platform. Once the application is successfully submitted, you will receive a registration form containing a Quick Response (QR) code, as well as the locations of the kiosks.

When you arrive at the designated kiosk, you have two options for verification. You can either scan the QR code provided on the registration form or scan your passport directly. This ensures a seamless and efficient process for obtaining or renewing your Emirates ID or passport.

Step 2: Enter your height and take your picture

The kiosk will retrieve your details from the ICP system. Subsequently, you will be prompted to enter your height in centimeters.

If you happen to enter an incorrect height or are unsure, worry not. The kiosk is equipped with built-in sensors that will accurately detect your height.

Following this, the camera will automatically adjust itself based on your height and capture a passport-sized photograph.

Step 3: Register your biometrics

Next, begin the biometrics process. Detailed instructions will be provided on the screen.

If you are over the age of 15 and need to renew your Emirates ID, or if you are new to the UAE and applying for the Emirates ID for the first time, it is necessary to register your biometrics. Additionally, there may be instances where they request you to redo the process if your biometrics are unclear or for other security purposes.

Step 4: Enter your signature and submit the details to ICP

To proceed, please enter your e-signature using the electronic pen and submit your information.

Once you have completed these steps, your details will undergo verification by ICP. Subsequently, your Emirates ID will be promptly delivered to the address you have provided.

Where will one find the kiosks?

ICP intends to promptly implement the kiosks and strategically install them in easily accessible public locations. These machines will be placed in malls, airports, and other high-traffic areas to ensure convenient access for individuals.
