Emirates ID is going to expire – how long before the phone line gets disconnected?

Your new Emirates ID is currently being processed and will be delivered to you soon. However, you may have been receiving messages from your telecom provider urging you to update your details, as failure to do so could result in your phone line being disconnected.

If you have been concerned about losing your phone connection due to either still waiting for your updated ID or being unable to renew it on time, there is some positive news for you. The telecommunications service providers in the UAE offer a grace period after your Emirates ID expires, allowing residents to update their information in the system without the fear of service disconnection.

To ensure you stay connected and avoid any disruptions, here is everything you need to know.

Etisalat by e&

Grace period – two months

Please note that customers are granted a grace period of two months after the expiration date of their Emirates ID. Within this period, customers will receive an SMS reminder to update their registration details in the Etisalat by e& system.

In a statement, du announced that customers now have the flexibility to update their Emirates ID within a specific timeframe. This window of time extends from 30 days prior to the ID’s expiration date to 90 days after it has expired.

This generous timeframe allows customers a total of 120 days to complete the updating process. To make things even more convenient, du offers multiple options for updating your Emirates ID. You can swiftly and effortlessly accomplish this task through the du app using UAE Pass. Alternatively, you can visit our self-service kiosk located in du stores or utilize our point of sale service.

What happens if one don’t renew the Emirates ID in this period?

According to Du, if your Emirates ID expires, outgoing services will be disconnected after 60 days. Furthermore, after 90 days, both outgoing and incoming services will be disconnected.

When applying for an Emirates ID, it is essential for applicants to provide an active phone number. This is necessary to ensure that they receive timely SMS updates regarding the status of their ID application. In the event of any delays in processing the Emirates ID, customers can find solace in the fact that their phone number will remain active for a period of 60 days following the expiration of their ID. However, it is important to note that after this 60-day period, outgoing services will be disconnected. Furthermore, if the ID remains unprocessed for a total of 90 days, both incoming and outgoing services will be disconnected.

If you are updating your Emirates ID on the system after 60 days from the card’s expiry date, and your phone’s outgoing services have been disconnected, you have the option to renew your Emirates ID on the du system through the following channels:

  1. ‘du’ app, which is available for Apple and Android devices (you will need to use your UAE Pass for this)
  2. Self-service kiosks
  3. At a du store

If you have exceeded the 90-day grace period and your line is completely disconnected with no outgoing or incoming activities, you will be required to visit a du shop.

During your visit to the shop, you will have the opportunity to submit your new Emirates ID and, if possible, retain your previous number by obtaining a new SIM card.

It is important to note that these procedures are in accordance with the regulations set by the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA). However, rest assured that customers will be kept informed about each step and action taken through SMS and email notifications. In the event that a customer registers their new Emirates ID for du while their line is disconnected, it will be reconnected within minutes.
