The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) declared on August 3 that it had expanded its programme to provide 50% reductions on RTA-related infractions. You might not have noticed, though, that the decreased fine also applied to a previous ticket you had received. How come? Here is a look at the specifics of the announced programme.
Does the discount scheme apply to me?
RTA Sharjah published the following announcement on its official social media pages on June 30 of this year:
“The Executive Council of the Emirate of Sharjah, headed by His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Deputy Chairman of the Executive Council, has approved a proposal for a 50 per cent discount on the violations of the Roads and Transport Authority in Sharjah, which applies to both violations of truck smuggling and violations of illegal operation, as is clarified as of July 1, 2022.”
Therefore, the discount only applies to the following categories, as per the SRTA’s clarification:
- Violations involving the illegal operation
- Truck smuggling offenses
Sharjah RTA stated the extension for offenses relating to unauthorized operation when it announced the extension of penalty. This category’s discount programme has been extended till October 4, 2022.
