Federal Traffic Law stipulates various penalties, including monetary fines, traffic black points, as well as the impoundment of vehicles or suspension of a driver’s license depending on the severity of the traffic violation. However, it is possible to take remedial action, especially by attending training courses organized by police authorities in each Emirate.
The Abu Dhabi Police announced on January 6, 2022, that 1,219 drivers had reduced their black points after taking awareness classes in 2021.
Abu Dhabi Police stated on its social media channels that the traffic points reduction program for motorists, which was introduced a few years ago, raised traffic awareness and improved driving culture and etiquette for drivers.
Abu Dhabi’s Traffic or Black Points Reduction Programme
As per a post by Abu Dhabi Police, a driver has the right to enter the programme once a year, during which eight points are reduced for those with accumulated traffic points not exceeding 23.
With the second programme, drivers who have more than 24 black points and their driving licenses have been revoked can attend classes. The third programme is available to motorists who have been ordered to surrender their vehicles.
