Are you looking for a quick, easy, and affordable way to travel around Dubai? What you need to know about S'hail

You only need one app, which is also free, to organize your complete journey using Dubai’s public transportation.

All of Dubai’s public transportation services, including the Metro, Tram, taxis, buses, and marine transport, are combined on one platform via the S’hail app created by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

An app is a navigation tool that gives commuters information about the route, such as the length of the journey, the arrival and departure times, and the approximate fee.

The app is accessible through the Huawei AppGallery, Google Play Store, and Apple App Store.

Here is a detailed look at the app and the reasons visitors and residents of Dubai must have it.

1. Plan your public transport journey

Not sure whether to take a taxi or the Metro to get where you’re going? You can choose your mode of transportation and destination on the app. You can compare several routes by comparing their prices and lengths of travel.

RTA also updates the schedules for the Metro, Tram, buses, and marine transportation often.

The steps for using the app are as follows:

  1. Install the “S’hail” app.
  2. Click “Plan a Journey” on the app after opening it. Put in both your starting point and final destination. Both of these details can be manually entered or chosen from a map.
  3. Next, select your preferred mode of transportation by clicking the settings icon on the right side of the screen. Metro, Tram, Bus, or Marine Transport are a few examples.
  4. Next, select the time of departure or arrival and hit the blue “search” tab.
  5. After that, the app will show you a choice of possibilities along with information about the route, departure, and arrival times, and the fee.

2. Book a taxi

You are able to reserve an RTA public cab via the S’hail app. However, you must sign in with your UAE Pass account in order to reserve a taxi. The official digital identity for UAE nationals and residents is the UAE Pass.

  1. Click “Book Taxi” after opening the app.
  2. Tap “Search” after entering your pick-up and drop-off locations.
  3. The app will then display the distance traveled and an estimated cost.
  4. After that, click the yellow “Book a taxi” button.
  5. Select the type of vehicle, whether it’s a standard taxi, a taxi van, or a women’s taxi—a vehicle designed exclusively for ladies and children.
  6. After it is finished, you can examine the date, estimated arrival time, duration, and cost.
  7. After that, click “Book.” Then, along with your UAE Pass, you will receive an SMS to the registered number and a booking confirmation on the app.
  8. You must pay the fare in cash or by credit card after your ride is over.

3. Download maps and guides from RTA for offline use

You can access all of RTA’s maps and guides offline by downloading them for free on the S’hail app. The location of the maps on the app is as follows:

– To access the app’s menu, tap the three horizontal lines in the upper left corner of your smartphone screen.

– Choose “Maps and Guides.”

– Following that, locate the following maps:

Any of the maps can be tapped to download it. You can access the maps after downloading the app without Wi-Fi or data.

4. Get the departure timings of buses

Leaving for work late and unsure of your ability to make it to the bus stop in time? You can check all the departure times for your bus stop in the S’hail section of the app.

Here’s how to find out when the buses leave:

5. Find when the next bus is coming to your station

If you frequently take public transportation, you can scan the QR code located at each bus stop in Dubai to find out the arrival and departure times for a certain route.

There is a signboard at the bus stop that has a QR code on it. Launch the S’hail app, then select “Scan QR code.” Ensure that the S’hail app has permission to view your camera and that you are connected to data or open Wi-Fi. You may get the current schedule for that exact bus stop after scanning the code.
