Abu Dhabi: Want to sell products online or on social media? Here is how to apply for the Tajer eCommerce licence

If you live in the UAE and have been considering launching your own online business to sell goods via websites or social media, the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development now makes it simple to obtain a licence (ADDED). With the Tajer eCommerce licence, foreign nationals can launch their own online company without paying any fees or needing an actual office.

What you need to know about the licence is provided here.

What is the Tajer eCommerce licence?

The Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED) introduced Tajer in 2017. For three years, you can start a business without a real office location and apply for more than 1,000 business activities that are approved by ADDED.

Additionally, under the “Tajer” licence, you can apply for work permits for three people if you want to hire staff for your new company.

According to ADDED, business owners who already hold a licence can add their online trading activities to that licence or get a new licence in order to operate through websites and social media platforms. This licence, however, can be extended to other commercial activities in addition to online economic activity.

According to the ADDED customer pleasure centre, any UAE resident with a UAE Pass is eligible to apply for the licence.

Which activities can one apply for?

The more than 1,000 operations covered by the licence range from the sale of clothing, furnishings, and crystal products to office supplies and furniture. A list of all the activities permitted by this licence is available from the Abu Dhabi Business Centre (ADBC) at https://www.adbc.gov.ae/CitizenAccess/Help/AbuDhabiTraderLicenseActivitiesList.pdf.

How do you apply for the ‘Tajer’ eCommerce licence?

TAMM, the official online government platform for Abu Dhabi, is the place to apply for the website.

  1. The legal type (LLC, sole proprietorship, etc)
  2. The business activity you wish to practice
  3. Your preferred trade name

Following that, you will be asked to upload a number of papers, the number of which will depend on the business activity and legal structure you have chosen for your company. Depending on your business activity, you can also be asked to request additional approvals from governmental bodies.

After you have submitted the necessary paperwork, ADDED will examine your application. You must submit the needed payment after approval before the economic licence can be given and made accessible for download. As your application progresses through the various approval phases, you will be informed of its status.
