4 criteria for applying for the UAE Green Visa as a skilled worker to unlock freedom and flexibility

Are you dreaming of making the UAE your home and workplace? The Green Visa provides skilled professionals with the opportunity to reside in the UAE for five years, without the requirement of an employer or sponsor.

If you are considering applying for a Green Visa as a working professional in the UAE, there are four key requirements that you must keep in mind.

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) of the UAE recently outlined the eligibility criteria for the long-term UAE visa on their social media platforms on February 20th.

What is the Green Visa?

The Green Visa is a newly introduced five-year, self-sponsored visa by the ICP that allows individuals to sponsor their family members for the same duration. This visa offers the opportunity for skilled workers to obtain a residence permit, also known as a residence visa, to work in the country without the need for a sponsor or employer.

According to the ICP, a foreigner may be granted a residence permit if they are a skilled worker in line with the professional classification and standards set by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE).

To qualify for a Green Residence permit as a skilled worker, the following criteria must be met:

  1. Obtain a work permit in the country under a valid employment contract.
    2. Be classified as a skilled worker in the first, second, or third professional level approved by MOHRE.
    3. Hold a minimum educational level of a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent.
    4. Earn a monthly salary of at least Dh15,000 or its equivalent in foreign currencies.
