IF, LIKE MOST PEOPLE ON THIS PLANET, you can’t afford $250,000 to travel to space on a 90-minute rocket ship, the next best thing is to stay at this mind-boggling Moon-shaped resort.
The MOON resort, designed by Michael R. Henderson and Sandra G. Matthews, will be housed inside the world’s largest sphere (650 feet in diameter and 735 feet in height). But appearances aren’t everything. Yes, the resort will be shaped like the Moon and will seem like it from the outside, but the goal on the inside is to provide tourists with an out-of-this-world experience without having to fly to space.
The resort’s 6.4 million square feet will feature just about everything you can imagine, including:
- 4,000 suites in five-star hotels with no windows
- A nightclub with an alien spaceship theme
- A spa and wellness facility
- Ballrooms
- An event center with a capacity of 5,000 people.
- A convention center
- Restaurants
- An aquatic center
The moon colony, though, is the cherry on top of this multibillion-dollar resort proposal. Guests will be able to walk on a facsimile of the Moon’s surface to get a sense of what it’s like to be on the Moon — sort of.
Of course, because taking an elevator to the Moon won’t cut it, there will be a shuttle system that will spiral around the hotel to deliver you to the lunar surface (placed on the top floor).
The goal is to build four Moon resorts throughout the world, with one in Las Vegas and another in Dubai. Because Where else would a massive luxury resort styled like the Moon look out of place?
There is currently no date set for the building, much less the opening, of one of these MOON resorts, but you can channel your love of the Moon into something else. For example go Check out this incredible replica of the Moon, which is part of a touring artwork piece by UK-based artist Luke Jerram. Alternatively, you might simply sit by the fire with a copy of TinTin’s Destination Moon.
