Saudi Arabia plans a skyscraper over twice the height of Dubai's Burj Khalifa: Report

According to reports by MEED, Saudi Arabia is currently developing plans for a skyscraper that will eventually become the tallest structure in the world.

Upon completion, the new mega project, which is expected to reach a height of 2 kilometers, will be more than twice as tall as Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, the highest structure in the world at 828 m.

The skyscraper will be a part of an 18 square kilometer development in Riyadh, and it has apparently been decided to build there next to King Khalid International Airport.

The final structure might cost $5 billion to build, according to contractors and based on the rates of nearby structures.

According to individuals familiar with the project, a design competition has also been announced, and developers, architects, construction experts, and project managers have been invited to participate and create the massive structure.

According to sources, a number of architecture companies have been enlisted to help with the project in its early phases. Names like Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), and Adrian Smith & Gordon Gill Architecture are reportedly involved.

With numerous projects in the works, the kingdom is presently experiencing a mega-project boom and is anticipated to surpass all other construction sites in the globe by the year 2030.
